Meals: SANA camp offers delicious Swahili cuisine without restrictions. Our cooks prepare fresh, local meals daily. Volunteers can also cook their own food in our shared kitchen or purchase meals at local village restaurants.
Transport: Volunteers arrange their own transport to/from SANA camp. We can assist with reliable local drivers and transportation options. Limited bicycles available for village transport at no extra cost.
Orientation: All volunteers receive a comprehensive orientation upon arrival covering safety, cultural norms, and project details.
Your wellbeing is our top priority throughout your stay
Nearby dispensaries are accessible for minor medical needs (within 5km). Volunteers should carry their own first aid kits with basic supplies. For emergencies requiring hospitalization, we arrange immediate transport to the nearest healthcare center (transport fees covered by volunteer). We recommend comprehensive travel insurance.
Be cautious of wildlife risks like snakes and elephants, especially during walks in the early morning or evening. Extra vigilance advised at night and during rainy seasons when elephants may enter village areas. We provide comprehensive safety briefings and have emergency protocols in place for wildlife encounters.
Malaria is common in the region - we recommend prophylaxis, mosquito nets, and repellent. Ensure you're up-to-date on routine vaccines and consider Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Yellow Fever vaccines. Drink only bottled or purified water. We have first aid trained staff on site at all times.
